WWII Then and Now added a new photo — at Museum Arnhem.

WWII Then and Now
Counting down to Saturday — when I’ll walk the Airborne March in Oosterbeek together with my family. This week is Airborne Week, with the highlight on Saturday: the Airborne March in Oosterbeek. It’s a week that always makes me look more closely at Arnhem and Oosterbeek, and reflect on the commemorations taking place. It is truly unique to walk and remember with over 30,000 people, exactly at the place where so many gave their lives and fought for our freedom. The photo is a blend of the present day and the situation back in September 1944. Just in front of the building, present PAX Hotel, members of C Company of the 2nd Parachute Battalion and The South Staffordshire Regiment were taken prisoner. They were taken prisoner of war and later taken to the station. Opposite is the municipal museum where other soldiers of the same regiment are also captured. The building at Utrechtseweg no. 88 now has no balcony and the shell holes that were on the side of the house have been carefully repaired and are no longer visible from a distance. In the foreground there is a piece of broken 2cm FlaK 38 cannon.https://maps.app.goo.gl/58NGuX3vanHBxVe2A#AirborneWeek #AirborneMarch #Arnhem1944 #Oosterbeek #LestWeForget #Freedom #Remembrance #wewillrememberthem #wwiithenandnow #thenandnow ... WWII Then and Now
During the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944, Kampfgruppe Peiper, led by Joachim Peiper, faced significant challenges in their advance, including destroyed bridges and dense traffic. Their advance eventually brought them to Stavelot, where they had to fight their way across a bridge. https://maps.app.goo.gl/arn9HNhzogDKz9We8https://www.tracesofwar.com/sights/146319/Monument-Destruction-Fuel-Storage.htm#WWII #BattleOfTheBulge #Ardennes #WW2History #KampfgruppePeiper #Stavelot #Kaiserbaracke #Patton #wwiithenandnow #thenandnow ... WWII Then and Now
We have been to Anloy. This mini village suffered greatly during the First World War, where several people from the village were used as shields and there were various reprisals on suspicion of helping the French. Near Anloy is also the village of Saint-Hubert, which was captured by the Germans during the WWII offensive, but was eventually liberated by the Americans. The photo shows Saint-Hubert with infantrymen from the 87th Div. entering the town of St. Hubert, immediately after the Germans have fled the town. December 1945. Only houses have been changed, but everything else looks the same. The Rue de Mont is the access road from the south where the American counter-offensive began.https://maps.app.goo.gl/BYVDPDUBitmdUP3y8#WWII #BattleOfTheBulge #SaintHubert #Belgium #History #ThenAndNow #LestWeForget #Ardennes ...
