Roetgen (Siegfried Line)

February 18, 2019 Erwin Jacobs

On the 13th of September the first breakthrough at the Siegfried Line was established at Roetgen, a town at the border of Belgium. A few days earlier (10th of September the first jeep crossed the border). The Siegfried Line was a defence system stretching more than 630 km (390 mi) with more than 18,000 bunkers, tunnels and tank traps.

WWII Then and Now added 5 new photos — at Museo WWI "Tre Sassi".

WWII Then and Now
Are you in the Italian Dolomites? Then be sure to visit Forte Tre Sassi as we did today! This fort is located in a beautiful spot and holds a wealth of history. I was surprised by the enormous collection of objects on display. From impressive cannons to personal belongings of soldiers and even a shovel full of bullet holes. There is even the possibility to buy some items that were found in the area! An absolute must-see for anyone interested in the First World War!#ForteTreSassi #Dolomites #WorldWar1 #history #museum #WarHistory #Italy ... See MoreSee Less

WWII Then and Now is at Rosenheim Stadtmitte.

WWII Then and Now
Same place. Same date(!). Worlds apart.Today I’m sitting here on Max-Josefs-Platz with a beer, surrounded by tourists and full terraces. On August 10–11, 1935, the Rosenheim branch of the NSDAP celebrated its 15th anniversary here — with a parade, a tribute to the fallen, and a speech by Adolf Hitler to over 10,000 people. Hard to imagine — until you’re right here. Although damaged during bombing from Allied forces the comparison is not hard to make#history #wwii #militaryhistory #wwiihistory #livinghistory #historyfacts #BeforeAndAfter #TimeCapsule #germany #rosenheim ... WWII Then and Now
the ruins of the Abbey of Mont Saint-Éloi stood majestically above the landscape. This strategic position made it a vital observation point during WWI, and its ruined towers still bear witness to the intense battles fought here.A mighty sight in the evening sun#MontSaintEloi #WW1 #History #StrategicPoint #WarMemorial #Remembrance #France_Arras ...
